In September 2023, GLOW, an organization dedicated to making a difference in the lives of underprivileged children, embarked on a mission that lit up the lives of 3000 kids in Lagos. This heartwarming charity event saw volunteers descending upon Dustbin village in Ajegunle on September 13th and the Makoko/Iwaya slum in Lagos state on September 15th.
GLOW’s mission is simple yet profound: to provide not just material support but also emotional guidance to children who need it the most. To achieve this, the organization called upon experienced children’s educators and specialists who could connect with the kids on a deeper level.
On the 13th of September, GLOW reached out to over 1200 children in the Dustbin village in Ajegunle. The event kicked off with an introduction to GLOW’s vision, instilling hope and inspiration in the young hearts. The dedicated educators and specialists were there to offer emotional support, counseling sessions, and a reassuring presence to the kids.
But that’s not all. GLOW understands the importance of education in a child’s life, so they didn’t stop at emotional support. They distributed essential back-to-school items, including books, bibles, stationeries, and more. Snacks, drinks, cereals, and cookies were also provided to keep those young minds nourished and energized.
The impact of GLOW’s charity event continued to grow on September 15th when they visited the Makoko/Iwaya slum in Lagos state. Here, they extended their outreach to more kids, spreading the message of hope even further.
In the end, GLOW’s mission went beyond feeding the bodies of these children; it fed their hearts and minds with dreams, aspirations, and the knowledge that there are people who care deeply about their well-being.
